New Opportunities for Collaboration: Advancing Mental Health and AI Research
EU BEACON One Health Education's New Initiatives Following EU4Health Results - Wellcome Trust and Erasmus+ Applications Now Open for Participation
Dear colleagues,
We regret to inform you that the EU4Health funding applications for the SMILE project, focused on service-learning for suicide prevention, and the BEACON Conference proposal were not selected for funding.
The BEACON project proposal, Building Education and One Health with Adaptive Convergence and Open Networks, is designed to leverage AI-powered educational technologies to enhance One Health education. The core goal is to integrate human, animal, and environmental health into high school curriculums through cutting-edge tools like AI, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) on the principlies of open science, open source and participatory learning. It emphasizes personalized learning, real-time feedback, and the development of critical thinking, cultural sensitivity, and problem-solving skills on real life challenges. The initiative also highlights global collaboration, practical skill-building, and the promotion of global citizenship, preparing students for real-world health challenges.
This ambitious project aims to advance interdisciplinary learning and practical applications, with a long-term vision of fostering health-conscious global citizens. It includes research coordination, curriculum development, teacher training, and student engagement activities, with a strong focus on community involvement and ethical use of technology.
Moving on the EU4Health setbacks to our work, we are now proceeding with two new initiatives. We are preparing an application for the Wellcome Trust funding call Generative AI for Anxiety, Depression and Psychosis, with a submission deadline of 28 May 2025. We do need all sorts of interdisciplinary expertise, including lived experience. Further details are available at:

Those interested in contributing may express their interest by commenting on this post, joining the coordination group, or by contacting us directly by email:

In parallel, we are preparing a new Erasmus+ application oriented towards the development of AI tools for mental health education and care. Both projects emphasize the integration of experts by experience and multidisciplinary collaboration, in line with the core principles of BEACON. Should you be interested in joining either or both projects, please contact us at your earliest convenience.
To end with, the decision on our EU COST Science and Technology Action application are expected later this month. We are also preparing to publish the literature review protocols on One Health Education and new technologies, strengthening our collaborative efforts to advance knowledge and implement urgently needed improvements. Horizon calls relevant to our project are also expected to open soon.
We invite all interested members and colleagues to participate in these initiatives. For further information and updates, you may refer anyone to our portal:

Looking forward to collaborating with you on these new calls. Wishing you all the very best. Thanks for reading and joining us, if you wish to. Here is a Doodle poll to decide on a day and time next week, to write down the proposal for the Wellcome call, as easy and quick as it is, to later focus on the Erasmus, the Horizon to come, and all our work in and outside BEACON.
Thank you all for being part of this network! All the best!
